Camp NanoWriMo

This is a first for me: taking part in NaNoWriMo. I have only been writing my latest piece for maybe 3 days now, but I think the pre-set word count is actually helping to drive me forward. It’s encouraging in a way that’s giving me some form of accountability, rather than my usual method of just turning up and typing in a Word document every night. I think having the progress bar is a decent motivator.

On the subject of the progress bar, I’m not sure how long this latest story is going to be. I thought it would be a novel (which it probably will be), but I am missing 5 nights of writing while being away on holiday mid-July, and I have come into the month with Covid, so I haven’t exactly been playing with a winning hand. That said, I set it to 20,000, but it’s one of these psychological things like setting yourself a low daily writing limit. It becomes a minimum target. The more you write, the easier it is to get lost in a tale and to forget about the lower targets, and you end up flying past them. That’s what I’m aiming to do here.

If you are taking part in NaNoWriMo in July 2022, all the best to you this month with your projects.
