Life and times are moving by at an alarming rate. Are we actually nearly done with March? As I have been recently, most of my time has been divided between working, feeling ill, and writing; I have also been continuing with my uni work in the evenings, and working my way through Year 2 of the Masters’ degree.
I have also been trying to get my work out into the world a lot more, and am happy to announce that MetaStellar has included one of my pieces, ‘Chlorophylliation’, on their brilliant site today. This is a reprint, originally published by Rabbit Hole Short Stories back in the autumn of 2021, and features a colony ravaged by a hostile plant form that has turned friend against friend. It was my first experience of writing an ‘unreliable narrator’ character and was an absolute joy to write, especially as the story filled one of my favourite sci-fi tropes, that being the doomed colony trope. The whole thing is just bizarre, frightening, with a little twist of dark humour in there too, and I appreciated the psychedelic artwork by Marie Ginga (based on a Victoria Watercolor image from Pixabay) that accompanied.
My novel Conclave is moving along, with the usual bouts of self-doubt, dread, and confusion. I am fast approaching 50k words, though this is only in the leadup to the end of what will be ‘Act 1’. There are still 2 further acts to go, and much more story to unfurl. Will I finish it this year? Who really knows…
Anyways, thank you for joining me on this update. As always, feel free to check out my latest works, pick up any of the featured anthologies on Amazon, or chuck me a coffee or two. Your support is always appreciated, take care.
