February was a busy month (and let’s face it, they are all shaping up to be busy months right now), especially with our new addition to the family. So what’s been going on?
Lately I have been studying for my Master’s in Creative Writing, having just finished a poetry block and moving back onto fiction. This first year is almost up, and though my brain is absolutely fried trying to learn a whole other establishment’s “dos and don’ts” of writing, I have enjoyed my studies for the most part. As always, there’s an emphasis on “showing and not telling”, which is really the bread-and-butter of what writers are taught these days, from my experiences, anyway. There’s also been exercises galore ranging from writing a tense scene between characters without mentioning why they are tense, to writing character sketches, and these are beneficial in their own ways but sometimes take away from the act of writing your actual personal writing, by sheer volume alone.
I don’t want to sound like an ungrateful child, so I’ll stop there!
My own writing this month has taken the form of a fairy tale reimagining for a writing contest that is wrapping up in a month. One f my favourite fairy tales (I think it can be called one), is one of the most chilling, and I am busy transplanting it to an off-world setting, as you might expect. Titan truly will never be the same once this is over.
As always, thanks again for stopping by. You can keep up to date with regular updates via my Instagram, and feel free to drop by and say hi.
Take care.
